Duct Takeoff Services That Never Miss a Fitting

Sheet metal has become one of the most volatile line items in any mechanical bid. In June 2025, the United States raised Section 232 tariffs on imported steel and aluminum to 50%, which made every pound of galvanized duct more expensive to buy. Our duct takeoff specialists measure every run, fitting, accessory, and hanger by size and gauge, so your sheet metal weight, material orders, and labor hours start from accurate quantities.

Why Accurate Duct Takeoffs Protect Sheet Metal Profit

Every Dollar of Ductwork Starts With a Quantity

Material cost, shop labor, and field labor for ductwork are all driven by linear feet, fitting counts, and total pounds. If the takeoff is short, the bid is short. A precise duct takeoff gives your HVAC estimation a foundation you can trust.

Fittings Drive Labor More Than Straight Duct

A single fitting can take longer to fabricate and install than several feet of straight duct. Takeoffs that lump fittings into linear footage understate labor and leave contractors working for free. Counting fittings separately reflects how sheet metal work really happens.

Clean Quantities Speed Up Fabrication and Ordering

When duct quantities are organized by system, size, and gauge, shops can plan coil usage, nesting, and production schedules with confidence. Purchasing teams order the right amount of sheet metal, insulation, and accessories. For other trades and full project counts, explore our quantity takeoff services.

Duct Takeoff Services We Provide

Rectangular Duct Takeoff

We measure rectangular duct by width, height, and length for supply, return, exhaust, and outside air systems. Each run is assigned a gauge, joint type, and reinforcement based on its size and pressure class. Contractors get exact square footage and weight for every section.

Round and Spiral Duct Takeoff

We take off round and spiral duct by diameter and length, including exposed spiral systems in open ceilings. Fittings such as couplings, reducers, and branch connections are counted separately. Shops and installers get quantities that match how spiral duct is ordered.

Flat Oval Duct Takeoff

We measure flat oval duct and fittings where ceiling space is limited and large air volumes are required. Major and minor dimensions are recorded accurately for fabrication. This specialty duct is priced correctly instead of treated like round or rectangular.

Duct Fitting Takeoff

We count elbows, tees, wyes, offsets, transitions, end caps, and branch takeoffs by size and type. Radius and mitered elbows are separated, along with turning vane requirements. Fitting counts give a true picture of fabrication and installation labor.

Sheet Metal Weight and Gauge Calculation

We calculate total sheet metal weight by gauge, material type, and pressure class using SMACNA guidelines. Galvanized, aluminum, stainless steel, and black iron are listed separately. Contractors know exactly how much material to buy and price.

Flexible Duct and Runout Takeoff

We measure flexible duct runouts to diffusers and terminal units by diameter and length. Insulated and uninsulated flex are separated, along with clamps and connections. Small runout quantities add up quickly across large floors.

Duct Accessories Takeoff

We count fire dampers, smoke dampers, volume dampers, backdraft dampers, access doors, flexible connectors, and turning vanes. Each accessory is tied to its size and location. These items are frequently missed and can significantly affect cost.

Air Device and Terminal Unit Counts

We count supply diffusers, return grilles, exhaust registers, linear slot diffusers, and VAV boxes from plans and schedules. Each device is listed by size, type, and neck connection. Contractors get complete counts for ordering and installation.

Duct Insulation and Liner Takeoff

We calculate duct wrap and internal liner by square footage, thickness, and material according to the specifications. Exterior duct, plenum, and exposed sections are identified separately. Insulation contractors and mechanical contractors get ready to use quantities.

Hangers, Supports, and Sealant Quantities

We estimate trapeze hangers, strap hangers, rod, anchors, and sealant based on duct size and spacing requirements. Seismic bracing can be included where required by code. These overlooked materials are captured before they become field surprises.

Grease and Specialty Exhaust Duct Takeoff

We take off welded black iron grease duct, stainless steel exhaust, laboratory fume exhaust, and dishwasher exhaust systems. Fire rated wraps and cleanouts are included where required. Specialty systems are measured with the detail their higher cost demands.

Revision and Change Order Duct Takeoffs

When drawings are revised, we compare the new set with the original and measure only the added, deleted, or modified ductwork. Changes are clouded and quantified clearly. Contractors get solid backup for pricing duct changes.

Industries We Provide Duct Takeoffs For

Ductwork changes greatly from one building type to the next, from simple residential runs to stainless steel lab exhaust. We measure each system with the standards and materials its facility requires.

Commercial Offices

Commercial Offices

We take off supply, return, and VAV distribution systems for office buildings and tenant spaces. Our counts support both base building and fit out work.
Laboratories and Research Buildings

Laboratories and Research Buildings

Labs require fume hood exhaust, stainless steel duct, and high air change rates. Our takeoffs capture specialty materials and complex routing.
Industrial Facilities

Industrial Facilities

Factories and warehouses use large exhaust systems, dust collection, and process ventilation. We measure heavy-gauge and oversized duct accurately.

Who Uses Our Duct Takeoff Services

Ductwork quantities matter to everyone who bids, fabricates, buys, or installs sheet metal. We tailor each takeoff to the way our clients work.

Sheet Metal Contractors

Sheet metal contractors use our takeoffs to bid more projects and plan shop production.

Mechanical Contractors

Mechanical contractors rely on our duct quantities as the foundation for complete HVAC bids.

Duct Fabrication Shops

Fabrication shops use our organized quantities to schedule production and order coil stock.

Insulation Contractors

Insulation companies rely on our duct wrap and liner quantities for accurate bidding.

General Contractors

GCs use our takeoffs to verify sheet metal scope in mechanical subcontractor bids.

HVAC Distributors and Suppliers

Suppliers use our counts of duct, fittings, and accessories to prepare material quotes for contractors.

How Our Duct Takeoff Process Works

Getting accurate duct quantities is simple and fast. Here is how we turn your mechanical drawings into organized sheet metal takeoffs.

  1. Send Mechanical Drawings and Specs

Upload HVAC plans, details, schedules, and specifications, along with any preferred takeoff format or pressure class requirements.

  2. Confirm Scope and Turnaround

We review the duct systems included, confirm exclusions, and send a fixed fee with delivery time.

  3. Measure, Count, and Verify

We take off duct, fittings, accessories, and hangers, then a second specialist checks sizes, gauges, and counts.

  4. Receive Organized Duct Quantities

You receive quantities in Excel with marked up plans, organized by system, floor, size, and gauge.

What Sheet Metal Contractors Say About Us

We bid duct on a five story medical office building with thousands of fittings and over 400 dampers. BlueTech’s takeoff counted every piece and calculated weight by gauge. Our shop used their quantities to plan the entire fabrication schedule.

Christopher Thomas

Our team kept losing money on fittings because they were buried in linear footage. BlueTech now separates every fitting in our takeoffs. Our labor hours finally match what happens in the field.

Michael John

A lab project had stainless steel fume exhaust, welded grease duct, and standard galvanized systems all mixed together. BlueTech separated every material and system clearly. It made pricing and purchasing much easier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pricing depends on building size, number of sheets, duct systems included, and complexity. A small office tenant space costs much less than a hospital with multiple air handlers and specialty exhaust. We send a fixed fee after reviewing your drawings.
